How I Choose and Test Products

I’m Brett, a busy dad and certified nutrition coach who lost 50 pounds with walking, simple home workouts and habits I could actually keep. When I recommend a product on Me-Fitter, I want you to know exactly where that recommendation comes from. Here’s how I choose and evaluate what I write about.

Two Kinds of Recommendations

Every product I recommend falls into one of two groups, and I try to make it clear in each review which one it is:

  • Personally used: I own it and have used it in my own routine. These recommendations include my own experience, and photos where I have them.
  • Research-based: I haven’t used it myself. I evaluated it using published specs, verified owner feedback, and how it compares with products I know well. I’ll say so in the review.

Products I’ve Personally Used

  • ZELUS Weighted Vest: the adjustable vest I recommend for most beginners. See my best weighted vests and walking with a weighted vest guides.
  • Difiney Anti-Snoring Device: the first snoring mouthpiece I tried, and my top pick in my best snoring mouthpiece guide.
  • Rotating push-up handles: I’ve used an older version for more than 15 years and still do. They’re the reason I recommend push-up bars to every beginner.

I’ll keep adding to this list as I use more of what I write about.

How I Evaluate Products

Whether I’ve used a product or not, I look at the same things:

  • Fit and comfort: will it work for a normal body, not just a fitness model?
  • Ease of use for beginners: can you start using it on day one without a coach?
  • Adjustability: can it grow with you as you get stronger?
  • Safety: for example, FDA clearance for snoring devices and third-party testing for supplements.
  • Owner feedback: I read verified reviews for patterns, like recurring fit problems or durability complaints, instead of just looking at the star rating.
  • Value: is it worth the price compared with the alternatives?

What I Won’t Do

  • I don’t accept payment to include or rank a product.
  • I won’t claim I’ve tested something I haven’t.
  • I won’t recommend something I wouldn’t be comfortable recommending to my own family.

A Note on Health Topics

I’m a nutrition coach, not a doctor. For health topics like sleep apnea, bone density or supplements, I cite research where I can, and I always recommend talking with your doctor before making changes, especially if you have a medical condition.
